George D. Gourdomichalis - CEO
George D. Gourdomichalis was born in 1967 in London. He attended Athens College and went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA in International Economics and a BA in Political Science. He further earned an MSc in Ocean Marine Transportation Management from the Maritime Academy of the State of New York. In 1989 he joined Republic National Bank of New York as a management trainee and worked on their trading floor. In 1992 he joined S.S. Maritime Inc. of New York, where he worked as a chartering and S&P broker and was responsible for commercial management of Baltmed Shipping Co.
In 1996 he returned to Greece and co-founded Gourdomichalis Naftiki Eteria S.A. In 2000 he co-founded Free Ships S.A. and in 2003 he co-founded Free Bulkers S.A. These activities were consolidated and in 2005 were successfully merged resulting in the public listing of FreeSeas Inc. on the NASDAQ Exchange. This shareholding was sold in January 2007 where upon he co-founded G. Bros Maritime S.A.
He is currently CEO of Blue Wall Shipping Limited and MD Phoenix Shipping & Trading S.A. George serves on the RINA Hellenic Committee, the Board of Directors of the American P&I Club, the Board of Directors of the Piraeus Marine Club, the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping and member of the Baltic Exchange, Intercargo, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, BHCC, HSSA and BIMCO.
Stathis D. Gourdomichalis - COO
Stathis D. Gourdomichalis was born in 1972 in London. He attended Athens College and went on to graduate from New York University with a BSc in International Management and Finance. He further earned an MSc in Shipping Trade and Transport from the City University.During his student years he worked at sea and on shore in shipping related companies. While working at J.E. Hyde Shipbrokers in London, he represented his family’s shipping interests.
In 1996 he returned to Greece and together with his brother George founded Gourdomichalis Naftiki Eteria S.A. He co-founded Free Ships S.A. and Free Bulkers S.A. respectively in 2000 and 2003, both ship management firms. All these activities were consolidated and in 2005 Stathis with his brother George successfully completed a reverse merger resulting in the public listing of FreeSeas Inc. on the NASDAQ Exchange.
He is currently COO of Blue Wall Shipping Limited.
In 1998, he founded a secondary stock brokerage firm, In Link S.A., which he sold to a large Stock Brokerage firm in 2001. He has founded a Maritime Technical Advisory firm, Central Bureau of Shipping, which also acted as a Recognized Organization on behalf of the Panama Flag. He co-founded and was member of the Board of Fortius Finance Romania. He is a member of the Rina Hellenic Committee and the Board of an NGO, the Greek Committee for the Education of Kenyan Youth.
Alex Haidas - CFO
Alex Haidas is the co-founder of Blue Wall Shipping Limited and the founder of Blue Wall Capital Limited, a London-based, independent investment advisory company, focusing on investments in real assets benefiting from globalization themes and offering high cash flows in the energy, transportation and infrastructure sectors.
Alex previously worked at CPM Advisers, a London based credit asset manager with an exceptional track record in managing hedge funds and bespoke mandates for institutional investors. While at CPM he launched a Special Situations Fund investing in high quality, cash flow generating structured credit assets which returned 40% from inception in October 2008 to December 2009 net of fees. He also led business development, raising fund and advisory assets in a period of extreme market turbulence. Alex was previously responsible for structuring and marketing a broad range of cash, synthetic and hybrid credit products, focusing on the repackaging of illiquid assets, at JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank. Alex developed an extensive network of relationships both with issuers and investors, providing original solutions on both asset and liability sides. He started his career at Cornerstone Research in Boston, MA, consulting with financial institutions regarding complex business problems.
Alex was awarded an MBA from The Wharton School and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts, Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, both degrees summa cum laude. He is a member of the Board of Overseers for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and he chairs the U.K. Leadership Committee for the University of Pennsylvania.
